Aunt Lindas Funeral

Here are some pictures from Aunt Lindas funeral~ a very fine woman who died much too young from cancer. We will miss her but know she is watching from above. Funny note, Linda was known for her pranks and jokes and after the funeral we went to the cemetary for graveside service and for whatever reason, the hole had not been dug to place her in ground! We all believe she had something to do with this and was up there just giggling.

Thanksgiving in the Country

Thought I would jot a little note about Thanksgiving... Spent the Thanksgiving weekend at a quaint little Bed and Breakfast in Levan, Utah (aka: Grandma and Grandpas house!) It was a blast! The whole family was there and enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by mom. Dad finally broke down and got a new satellite dish and remote (the old one was broken and you had to pretty much get UP and out of your seat to get close enough to change the channel~can you imagine the barbarian nature of that???!!!)
After dinner, Tyler broke out the poker set and we had several rounds or Texas Hold em- Dad found Mike a pushblade (at a yard sale nontheless!) to put on his four-wheeler and he and Dad worked on getting that attached and ready to go for the first snowstorm which Mike is anxiously awaiting.
All the guys (Todd, Mike, Tyler and Casey) went duck hunting early the next morning while we "women and child folk" stayed home, slept in and had pancakes by grandpa. Oh yeah, grandpa didn't go~he is wise enough to stay home, sleep in and be warm.

Trent Duval

A friend of mine from Sandy police department (whom I have known since he was a rookie) has a son who has terminal leukemia. His name is Trent and he is 8 years old. If you think you are having a bad day and that life is rough, checkout his story at www.trentduval.blogspot.com and you will have a new appreciation for life.
Thank you Trent for your example, strength and courage. You are a modern day stripling warrior if I have ever seen one. You have inspired me to be a better person and touched my heart with your steadfastness and will to live.

Colton Baptism

Colton turned 8 last month and was baptised. What a great day for our family and Colton. He was baptised the same day as his good buddies James and Aiden...the 3 little blondies!

Afterwards the family came over and we had a BBQ and enjoyed each others company. Colton is such a special boy and had added so much to our family with his sweet, quiet way about him.

Brady lacrosse

Brady is in his third season of Lacrosse and was asked to be on a competetive team "SouthValley Outlaws." We are all really excited about it and he will be in his first tournament Oct. 17th and 18th~BYU hosted "Frightfest". He plays Middie position though we think he is better as an attackman. : )

Yellowstone

We finally took a trip to Yellowstone as a family. I had never been before so it was a real treat. We saw a ton of wildlife such as Bison, Elk, Coyote, Bald Eagle etc... We went for an entire week and stayed at an RV park in West Yellowstone. I think the kids had alot of fun~especially at the motel pool just down the road that they could swim at. Funny how you go to different locations and all the kids want to do is swim!

Mike, Garrett and Brady did alot of fly fishing. The first night they went apparantly many tourists had never seen an actual fly fisherman because they said at least 10 cars pulled over and got out to take their picture...Mike thought there was a bear or something just above them where they couldn't see but then realized they were taking their pictures. Now they know what the wildlife felt like!

We also took Brady and Colton to the Jr. Smokejumpers program where they learned about what it takes to be a smokejumper. Since Mike had lived in Bozeman, we took a drive up there and on the way stopped at the smokejumper base at the airport and went on a tour.

Camping Trip to Ephraim Canyon

Our family loves to go camping! These pictures are from our latest outing to Ephriam Canyon. We found a great little pond stocked with plenty of fish. They weren't very big but the kids had a blast catching them (as well as the adults including myself!) Highlights from the trip included a beautiful four wheeler ride up the canyon, a new recipe for some "Texas caviar" (which was so yummy and a must try!) and NO injuries- unless you count the paintballs to Jil and Aarons trucks! We missed you Bell family and can't believe buying a new house was more important than camping....geez!
Colton now thinks he is as big as his older brothers now as he has learned to drive a four-wheeler. He has to drive the Foreman as it is an electric shift and his feet can't reach the pedal shift too well on the Recon. It is so hilarious to see him put it in reverse, he uses his knee for leverage and the first time I saw him do it, I was amazed at how he figured it out.
I also made dad's "Fish and Game" potatoes in the Dutch oven for everyone and it brought back memories of dad cooking dutch oven on Sunday afternoons at their house in West Jordan when they used to live there. How I miss that....
Here is the recipe for the "Texas Caviar"....Thanks Ike and Mitzi!

Texas Caviar
1 c. celery, minced (about 2 stalks)
1 sm onion, minced
1 c. green pepper, minced
1 c. corn, drained
1 can pinto beans
1 can black-eyed peas
1 sm jar chopped pimento
Jalapeno pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
Sauce:
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. water
3/4 c. vinegar
1/2 c. salad oil
1 c. sugar
Cook to boiling and pour over the vegetable mixture. Store in refrigerator for 24 hours before service. Drain off sauce and serve with chips.

Quail in our backyard

Trip Downtown-August 2007

About a month ago, we all decided to take a trip downtown to Gateway and the boys got to experience a spacewalk at the planetarium. Quote from Garrett: "Oh my little Garretts!" We were all laughing as they hooked him into the spacewalk harness and I do believe he was regretting it... It just kills me that he is 15 and has a lerners permit. Brady and Colton had fun with the "hands on" part of the planetarium and afterwards, we visited the water area of Gateway where we all enjoyed a "snowie", especially Colton.

Survivormania season begins!

I have to say, I really haven't watched too much television this summer. I rarely have even watched the news, not that I didn't have the need to be up to date on current events but I just haven't had the time! I am however, very excited to start another season of Survivor. I just like gathering around the tv as a family and having some together time. I LOVE Tivo. It is the best invention since....well, the television! To have the power to skip over those obnoxious commercials is truly a gratifying experience. Plus you can watch an hour long program in only about 35 mins. I don't even watch things on tv unless it is pre-recorded so I can skip the commercials. I am tired of people trying to convince me to buy products I don't even need.

I think the reason I like reality tv is just that truth is always stranger than fiction. I enjoy the "characters" or "players" in survivor, especially the ones you love to hate....you all know what I am talking about. There are those people you just connect with in some way and you root for them til they get voted off, then pick another favorite.
